Outstanding Director, Resident Musical: Michael Baron for A Year With Frog and Toad, at Adventure Theatre MTC.

Outstanding Director, Resident Play: Aaron Posner, for Cyrano, at Folger Theatre.

Outstanding Ensemble, Resident Musical: Hairspray, at Signature Theatre.

Outstanding Ensemble, Resident Play: King Lear, at Synetic Theater.

Outstanding Lead Actor, Non-Resident Production: Sahr Ngaujah, FELA!, at Shakespeare Theatre Company.

Outstanding Lead Actor, Resident Musical: Euan Morton, for Parade, at Ford’s Theatre and Theater J.

Outstanding Lead Actress, Non-Resident Production: Cate Blanchett, for Uncle Vanya, at The Kennedy Center.

Outstanding Lead Actress, Resident Musical: Carolyn Cole, for Hairspray, at Signature Theatre.

Outstanding Lead Actress, Resident Play: TIE: Rena Cherry Brown, for Wit, at Bay Theatre Company, Inc. and Erica Sullivan, for Venus in Fur, at The Studio Theatre.

Outstanding Lighting Design, Resident Production: Andrew F. Griffin, for King Lear, at  Synetic Theater.

Outstanding Musical Direction, Resident Production: Jon Kalbfleisch, for Hairspray, at Signature Theatre.

Outstanding Non-Resident Production: Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, at Arena Stage.

Outstanding Production, Theatre for Young Audiences: Charlotte’s Web, at Adventure Theatre MTC.

Outstanding Set Design, Resident Production: Lee Savage for Much Ado About Nothing, at Shakespeare Theatre Company.

Outstanding Sound Design, Resident Production: TIE: Chris Baine, A Bright New Boise, at Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company and Irakli Kavsadze and Konstantine Lortkipanidze, for King Lear, at Synetic Theater.

Outstanding Supporting Actor, Resident Musical: Matthew DeLorenzo, for Pop!, at The Studio Theatre’s 2ndStage.

Outstanding Supporting Actor, Resident Play: Ted van Griethuysen, in Much Ado About Nothing, at Shakespeare Theatre Company.

Outstanding Supporting Actress, Resident Musical: Nova Y. Payton, for Hairspray, at Signature Theatre.

Outstanding Supporting Performer, Non-Resident Production: Hugo Weaving, in Uncle Vanya, at The Kennedy Center.

The Charles MacArthur Award for Outstanding New Play or Musical: Marc Acito, for Birds of a Feather, at The Hub Theatre.

The Robert Prosky Award for Outstanding Lead Actor, Resident Play: Mitchell Hébert, for After the Fall, at Theater J.

Joel Markowitz
Joel Markowitz is the Publisher and Editor of DCMetroTheaterArts. He founded the site with his brother Bruce to help promote the vast riches of theatre and the arts in the DC Metro area that includes Maryland, Virginia, and DC theater and music venues, universities, schools, Children's theaters, professional, and community theatres. Joel is an advocate for promoting the 'stars of the future' in his popular 'Scene Stealers' articles. He wrote a column for 5 years called ‘Theatre Schmooze’ and recorded podcast interviews for DC Theatre Scene. His work can also be seen and read on BroadwayStars. Joel also wrote a monthly preview of what was about to open in DC area theatres for BroadwayWorld. He is an avid film and theater goer, and a suffering Buffalo Bills and Sabres fan. Joel was a regular guest on 'The Lunch and Judy Show' radio program starring Judy Stadt in NYC. Joel founded The Ushers Theatre Going Group in the DC area in 1990, which had a 25-year run when it took its final curtain call last year. Joel is a proud member of The American Critics Association.
