Theatre Lab Offers Classes Featuring Productions of ‘Les Miz’ and ‘August: Osage County’ by Dane Petersen

THEATRE LAB SPRING SESSION OFFERS CLASSES FEATURING PRODUCTIONS OF LES MIZ, and AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY

This spring, Theatre Lab students will have the opportunity to take on roles in full-fledged productions of a critically-acclaimed Broadway play and one of the world’s favorite musicals. The Spring Session classes Creating a Role and Creating a Musical Role are featuring August: Osage County and Les Misérablesrespectively.

“It’s important to us to provide our students with the chance to rise to the occasion, because they always do,” says Theatre Lab co-director Buzz Mauro. “And these shows offer just about the most amazing, most challenging training opportunities you could ask for.”

The Theatre Lab produced a youth version of Les Miz several years ago, but the “Creating a Musical Role” students will be performing the full adult version, whose rights were quickly grabbed by The Theatre Lab as soon as they were released. The course guides students through all the steps of preparing and performing a role in a musical. As a class, it opens the opportunity to people with all levels of acting experience, though the major roles will be cast by audition.

Audition dates are Jan. 26, 10 am – 1 pm; Jan. 29, 7 – 10 pm and Feb. 2, 10 am – 1 pm.

Men are especially encouraged to audition. The class will be led by The Theatre Lab’s co-executive directors, Deb Gottesman and Buzz Mauro, beginning March 5. Get more details on The Theatre Lab website.

August: Osage County provides students that register for Creating a Role with an equally compelling challenge for the actor. A Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning drama, the play features a dysfunctional family saga with many memorable roles.

“A comedy-drama like August: Osage County provides an ideal platform for the on-the-job style of training that this class gives an actor,” Mauro says. As with Les Mizthe course will take students through the entire process of putting together a performance for production, and actors with all levels of experience are welcome to audition. Delia Taylor and Deborah Taylor, a daughter-mother team who have helmed many Creating a Role projects for The Theatre Lab, will lead this course as well.

Auditions are Jan. 26, 10 am – 1 pm and Jan. 30, 7 – 10 pm.

The class begins February 27.
