Laugh Yourself Smart with The Encyclopedia Show DC!
Hear Ye Hear Ye People of Capital Fringe!

The time nears for you to do your civic duty and vote for the coveted position of “Vice President of Fringe.” There were many qualified candidates but as we don’t trust you to pick the correct one, we narrowed it down to two options: Norm Fairweather or Brock Godlove…

What are the duties of Vice President of Fringe? Well, finding the most comfortable sitting position at Fringe, deciding which alcoholic drinks are acceptable before noon, and most importantly they oversee the non-existent Fringe Senate and probably some other stuff too…

You may be asking how does a simpleton such as myself vote in this highly prestigious and legitimate election? Well the answer is so easy even you can understand! By coming to The Encyclopedia Show DC Series 1 Volume 7: Vice Presidents! Prepare to laugh and learn from the hilarious do-nothingness of our Veeps. Which one conceded the job will “not be hard nor unpleasant”? Which one was the fruitiest? Which pastime is best, looking out the window or twiddling your thumbs? All your weird questions could possibly be answered when we turn the page on Vice Presidents!

But Wait. The Encyclopedia Show shall flipith the script and turneth the pageth…..again. SHAABAM! Also premiering at Fringe: Series 1 Volume 8: Mythical Beasts! Put on your adventuring cap as we take you on a mythical safari! Who would win in battle between a Manticore and Pikachu? Is the Snuggle Bear as snuggly as he seems? We’ve got more legendary livestock in our bestiary than a hydra has hairnets. So after Vice Presidents, gear up for an adventure encountering Mythical Beasts!

The Encyclopedia Show DC brought their nerdcore vaudeville to the DC in December, producing shows monthly on the topics: Moon, Bears, Saints, Colors, Explosives, and The Future. Grassroots community theatre at it’s nerdiest; this vaudevillian extravaganza uses art to dissect a different encyclopedia entry each month. We then post our performances online that you can view here on our Youtube channel. Cast member Keith Center describes the show as “a mental work out…ideal for someone who prefers their entertainment not to be pre-processed for them. The deeply worded poetry, quick wits, bold concepts, and powerful subject swings demand an audience who enjoys to have their views challenged.”

Founded in 2008 in Chicago by poets Robbie Q Telfer and Shanny Jean Maney, The Encyclopedia Show has since exploded planetarily to over 25 cities worldwide including Seoul, New York, LA, Austin, Providence, Berlin, and many more. We are honored to share their vision with the Nation’s Capital.

The Encyclopedia Show endeavors to build an age-integrated community cultivating accidental knowledge and irreverent loving kindness. Though the show is accredited by the Institute of Human Knowledge and Hygiene, it is our ongoing mission to chafe against logic and proof, find meaning in obfuscation, and wrest truth from fact once and for all.

A month in advance of each show, we assign our contributors subtopics of the show theme. If the shows theme was the Moon they could be assigned “lunacy” for instance. This Fringe be on the lookout for performances on “Minotaur,” “Richard Mentor Johnson,” and “Phoenix” to name just a few. You can expect to see Poetry Slam Champions, Comics, PhDs, Dancers, Performance Artists, Musicians, Story Tellers, Historians, and one Upset Yeti converge in a variety extravaganza that will make your mortarboard spin!

We are unfortunately accredited by the Institute of Human Knowledge and Hygiene…who appointed us the Fact Checker (boooo)…C. Alexander T. Koth, who has more degrees than you and likes it that way. His GRE score was higher than Snoop Lion at the All Good Festival. His pastimes include crossing his arms and using laser beams of intelligence that shoot from his eyes to disintegrate untruth. At our inaugural “Moon” show, The Fact Checker begged to the sold out audience: “if you have any respect for yourself of the truth please leave the theatre right now.” Luckily they haven’t yet.

As you walk in the theatre, expect to interact with the show’s zany characters. Perhaps Bart Bottomsworth will ask you “if you got a tube of Abreva”? Or will the bothersome Ichabod Forte ask you to sign a petition? Maybe Madame Fortuna will read your fortune? Each show you can expect to follow the characters on a hilarious journey and learn something while you’re at it. Read more on The Encyclopedia Show DC website.
